How do I complete identity verification?

Identity verification, also known as KYC (Know Your Customer) , is an essential process to confirm that you are indeed the person applying for the loan. This step helps protect you against fraud, identity theft, and other financial crimes.

What documents do I need?

The required documents vary, but generally include

  • A valid government-issued ID i.e your National ID (front & back)
  • A picture of yourself (selfie) captured live and directly from your phone

Steps to perform the verification

Completing the process is very simple and will only take you a few minutes:

  1. Log in: Enter your Tala app with your 4-digit PIN.
  2. Start the process: On the home screen, tap the "Verify identity" button or click "View loan offer" to see the requirements.
  3. Upload your documents: Follow the app's instructions to take clear photos of your ID. Make sure there are no reflections and that the text is legible.
  4. Take the selfie: Make sure you are in a well-lit place and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Alternative method: In some cases, you may receive a link via SMS to securely upload your documents.

Frequently asked questions about the process

How long does the review take?

It usually only takes a few minutes. We'll notify you through the app as soon as your documents have been reviewed and your account has been updated.

What happens if my documents are rejected?

If there's a problem (like a blurry photo), we'll contact you to let you know what needs to be corrected. You'll have the opportunity to resubmit your documents immediately.

Is my information safe?

Absolutely. We take the security of your data very seriously. We use high-level encryption and security protocols in compliance with personal data protection legislation.

How many times do I need to do this?

At the time of taking your first loan with Tala, you will only be initially required to submit your KYC documents. If you previously took a loan with Tala and you are in the process of borrowing again, and have not previously submitted your KYC documents, you will be asked to provide that documentation during your application process. KYC documents are only required once or if a legal or regulatory change requires a resubmission.

* Remember to keep your notifications active to receive an alert as soon as your loan is ready to be deposited.
