What is biometric login?
Biometric login is a secure way to access your Tala account using your phone's built-in fingerprint or facial recognition, instead of typing your 4-digit PIN every time. It's faster, more secure, and eliminates the worry of forgetting your PIN.
Is it safe to use my fingerprint or facial recognition?
Yes, it's very safe.
- Privacy first: Tala does not “see” or store your fingerprint or facial data on our servers.
- Secure storage: Your biometric information is securely stored in the Android Keystore, a high-security vault built into your phone that apps cannot access directly.
How do I activate biometric login?
If you have a compatible phone (Android 10 or higher) and have already set up fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock your device, you'll see the "Register" option after successfully entering your PIN when logging in or during registration. Just select "Yes" and enjoy faster access.
What if my fingerprint or facial recognition doesn't work?
Don't worry! If the scan fails, you can try up to three times. If it still doesn't recognize you, you can always choose "Enter PIN manually" to access your account.
Can I still use my PIN?
Absolutely. Your 4-digit PIN is still your "master key." You'll need it if you want to change your security settings or if you log in from a device that doesn't support biometrics.
My account was previously blocked for 3 hours. Does this help?
Yes! Most lockouts occur because customers enter the wrong PIN multiple times. By using biometric access, you eliminate the risk of PIN errors and completely avoid those 3-hour lockouts.
What happens if I change my phone number or PIN?
- New phone: If you switch devices, you'll first log in with your PIN. Once logged in, the app will ask if you want to enable biometrics on the new phone.
- New PIN: If you change your Tala PIN, biometric access will continue to work normally; you do not need to register it again.
Can I disable this feature later?
Yes. If you decide you prefer to use your PIN, you can go to "App Settings" at any time and disable biometric authentication.
