Tala Invest

1. What is Tala Invest?

Tala Invest is a new product offered by Tala through a partnership with Etica Capital Limited. It allows you to invest your money, earn interest daily with a return of up to 12%*  annually by investing it in a fund: This could be a Money Market Fund (MMF) or a Fixed Income Fund (FIF)

*The rate changes daily based on market performance

2. How do I earn interest with Tala Invest?

Interest is calculated daily and reflected in your total balance at midnight.

• You can start with any amount, but you’ll begin earning interest once your balance reaches KES 100.
• After that, any additional amount you add will increase your investment and continue earning interest.
• Funds added to your Cash Balance are automatically moved to Your Investment and begin earning interest on the next working day. E.g If you add money on a Friday, it will start earning interest from Monday. However, any amount already invested will continue earning interest over weekends and public holidays.

3. How do I add money to  my Tala Invest account ?

You have several convenient ways to add money to your Tala Invest account :

• Directly in the Tala App: Use the M-Pesa direct prompt option for real-time top-ups  of up to KES 250,000 daily.
• M-Pesa Paybill: Use Paybill number 4096483 and enter your unique Tala Invest ID as the account number.
• Bank Transfer (Pesalink): Transfer from your bank app by selecting Equity Bank and using account number 0180283951027, with your Tala Invest ID as the reference.

4. Is there a lock-in period, or can I withdraw my funds anytime?

There is no lock in period for Tala Invest. After you add funds, your money is invested on the next business day (the next working day, excluding weekends and public holidays). You can withdraw your money once the funds have been invested.

5. How can I withdraw funds and are there any fees involved?

You can withdraw funds directly to your M-Pesa wallet. Minimum amount you can withdraw is Ksh 10, maximum amount is Ksh 250,000 per transaction. M-Pesa withdrawals are subject to fees ranging from Ksh 5 to Ksh 30, depending on the transaction amount. 

6. If I have a Tala loan, will my invested money be used to repay it?

No. Money you add to Tala Invest is used only for investment and will not be applied to your loan. To repay your loan, please use the usual Tala repayment options.

7. How do I know that my money is safe?

Tala ensures the security of your funds through several layers of protection:

• Regulated Partnership: Your funds are managed in partnership with Etica Capital Limited, a licensed and regulated entity by the Capital Markets Authority.
• Secure Infrastructure: All communications and data transfers are encrypted and authenticated using industry-standard security protocols.
• Transparency: You can view your real-time balance, track daily interest credits, and generate detailed account statements directly within the app to monitor all transactions.

8. Is Tala Invest for individuals or can chamas and businesses invest?

Tala Invest is currently an individual investment product, however, we are working to add other options in the near future which may bring in chamas and businesses.

9. Does the Tala Invest Interest attract a fund management charge?

Yes, the fund management fee is 2.0% per annum. 

10. Is money earned on Tala Invest subject to taxation?

Yes, Like all other interest earning investments, Tala Invest income is subject to 15% withholding tax which will already be deducted on the interest return you receive.

11. What is the transaction top-up limit on Tala Invest?

• Min Amount: Ksh 100 to start earning interest
• Max Amount on Mpesa: KES 250,000 per day
• Max amount from bank: Ksh 999,999 per day

There is no limit to the amount you can keep in Tala Invest. Keep investing and watch your money grow
